Swedish Gymnasieskolan Curriculum (All Programs)
This outlines the core curriculum components for all students in the Swedish Gymnasieskolan.
Core Subjects (Gymnasiegemensamma ämnen)
All Gymnasieskolan programs include these core subjects:
- English: Focuses on developing advanced language skills applicable to future professions or higher education. Includes a tiered system continuing from grundskolan.
- Swedish/Swedish as a Second Language: Further develops language skills.
- Mathematics: Offers different learning pathways ("spår") tailored to various program requirements. Students on vocational programs typically begin with an introductory course and a subsequent building-block course. Students in programs like the Economics, Aesthetics, Humanities, and Social Science programs follow a track with three courses. The Natural Science and Technology programs have their own three-course track.
- History: A new addition to the core curriculum, aimed at enhancing students' understanding of societal events and fostering participation in civic life.
- Physical Education and Health:
- Natural Science: Covers various scientific disciplines. On the Natural Science and Technology programs, specialized subjects like Biology, Physics, and Chemistry replace the general Natural Science course.
- Social Studies:
- Religious Studies:
The number of credits allocated to each core subject varies between vocational and higher education preparatory programs. Vocational programs generally have fewer core subject credits to allow more time for program-specific courses and prepare students for direct entry into the workforce.
Gymnasiearbetet (Independent Project)
The Gymnasiearbetet is a mandatory 100-credit independent project required for graduation. It serves as a culmination of the student's studies, demonstrating their preparedness for either further education or entering the workforce.
- Vocational Programs: The project focuses on demonstrating the student's readiness for work within their chosen field.
- Higher Education Preparatory Programs: The project emphasizes the student's preparedness for university studies, particularly within their program's focus area.
The Gymnasiearbetet is typically completed towards the end of the program and can be conducted individually or in groups, although each student is assessed individually. |
