Swedish Gymnasieskolan Curriculum - Mathematics (Matematik)
The Swedish Gymnasieskolan curriculum for Mathematics (Matematik) aims to develop students' ability to work mathematically, including understanding concepts, methods, and problem-solving strategies. The curriculum emphasizes the use of mathematics in various contexts, including social, professional, and historical settings.
The curriculum includes a range of courses, each building upon the previous one, allowing students to progress through increasingly complex mathematical concepts. These courses are structured with central content and grading criteria. The courses available are:
- Mathematics 1a (Matematik 1a): 100 points. This course covers fundamental mathematical knowledge and is compulsory for all vocational programs. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 1b or 1c.
- Mathematics 1b (Matematik 1b): 100 points. This course provides foundational knowledge and is included in the economics, aesthetics, humanities, and social science programs. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 1a or 1c.
- Mathematics 1c (Matematik 1c): 100 points. This course covers basic concepts and is part of the natural science and technology programs. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 1a or 1b.
- Mathematics 2a (Matematik 2a): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 1a, 1b, or 1c. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 2b or 2c.
- Mathematics 2b (Matematik 2b): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 1a, 1b, or 1c. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 2a or 2c.
- Mathematics 2c (Matematik 2c): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 1a, 1b, or 1c. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 2a or 2b.
- Mathematics 3b (Matematik 3b): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 2a, 2b, or 2c. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 3c.
- Mathematics 3c (Matematik 3c): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 2a, 2b, or 2c. It cannot be included in a student's exam alongside Mathematics 3b.
- Mathematics 4 (Matematik 4): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 3b or 3c.
- Mathematics 5 (Matematik 5): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 4.
- Mathematics - Specialization (Matematik - specialisering): 100 points. Builds upon Mathematics 4 and can be taken multiple times with varying content.
Each course includes central content areas, focusing on various aspects of mathematics, such as arithmetic, algebra, functions, trigonometry, statistics, probability, geometry, and problem-solving. The use of digital tools is also integrated into the curriculum. |
