Switzerland Primary School Curriculum (5th/6th Grade) - Art and Design

This curriculum is based on Lehrplan 21, which was developed between 2010 and 2014 by the German-speaking Cantonal Education Directors' Conference (D-EDK). Lehrplan 21 harmonizes the elementary school curriculum across 21 German-speaking cantons in Switzerland. It is a subject-area curriculum that outlines competency development from kindergarten through compulsory education.

Art and Design

Art and design education in Swiss primary schools covers visual arts, textile design, and technical design. The curriculum emphasizes the development of skills and techniques in various art forms. Students explore elements such as color, texture, form, and pattern.

Visual Arts

Visual arts education aims to develop students' creative and aesthetic experiences, fostering sensitivity to the visual, spatial, and tactile world. Students engage in activities like drawing, painting, sculpting, and exploring various art, craft, and design techniques. They also learn about the historical and cultural context of art.

Textile and Technical Design

Textile and technical design education within Lehrplan 21 focuses on the design process. Students work with products, processes, and creative and technical solutions. They learn about the impact of design on society and the environment. This area may also incorporate digital media. Specific learning objectives and activities are outlined within the Lehrplan 21 framework.
