Swiss Matura

The Swiss Matura is the standard qualification for university entrance in Switzerland and is also recognized internationally. Chemistry is typically offered as a minor (supplementary) subject within the Swiss Matura program. Some schools offer Biology and Chemistry as core subjects. The core subjects of the Swiss Matura often include three languages (the language of schooling, a second national language, and a third language which could be another national language, English, or Latin and Greek), mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography, music, and visual arts. Students may choose a specialization area such as Biology & Chemistry, or Physics and Applications of Mathematics. A Matura paper is also required.

Vocational Chemistry Qualifications

While the Swiss Matura is the main pathway to university, vocational qualifications also exist. A federal vocational baccalaureate (Berufsmatura) or specialized baccalaureate can qualify students for admission to certain universities of applied sciences, such as the ZHAW. Specific chemistry-related vocational training programs may be available, although details are limited.
