Russian Language in Tajikistan's Secondary Schools
Russian language holds a significant place in Tajikistan's education system. While Tajik is the primary language of instruction, Russian is a mandatory second language. Approximately 90% of the population speaks Russian at varying levels of proficiency. Russian is seen as a gateway to higher education and career opportunities.
There are several schools in Tajikistan that offer instruction in Russian. As of 2022, there were 39 schools with Russian as the primary language of instruction. In addition, there are many mixed-language schools where both Tajik and Russian are used. Russia has been actively involved in supporting Russian-language education in Tajikistan, including the construction of new schools and the provision of textbooks and teachers. Five new Russian-language schools were opened in September 2022.
Despite the available information on the general presence of Russian language instruction in Tajikistan's secondary schools, specific details about the Grade 9 curriculum remain elusive. |
