Tanzania Ordinary Secondary Education Form III-IV Agriculture Curriculum

This curriculum outlines the agricultural syllabus for Forms III-IV of the Tanzania Ordinary Secondary Education. The syllabus aims to equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in agricultural principles and production techniques. It emphasizes the application of these principles in crop, animal, and aquaculture production. The curriculum also aims to foster 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication within the context of agriculture.

Form III

  • Cereals and Pulses Production: This topic covers the principles and practices for producing maize, sorghum, paddy rice, as well as pulses like common bean/pea, cowpea, and pigeon pea. Students will learn about various farming practices involved in cereal and pulse production.
  • Cattle Production: This section focuses on the principles and practices of dairy and beef cattle production. Students will explore different husbandry practices related to cattle rearing and management.
  • Project Work: Students are required to plan and execute a crop or animal-based production project. This involves identifying a production problem, developing a plan to address it, and implementing the project.

Form IV

  • Nut/Oil Seed Crops Production: This topic delves into the principles and practices of producing nut and oil seed crops such as sunflower, sesame, and groundnut. Students will learn about the recommended husbandry practices for these crops.
  • Aquaculture: This section introduces students to the principles and practices of aquaculture, including fish, sea cucumber, and seaweed farming. Students will explore the various techniques and management strategies involved in aquaculture production.
  • Project Work: Students continue and complete the crop or animal-based production project initiated in Form III. They will finalize the project implementation and submit a comprehensive report.

This curriculum emphasizes practical application through field visits, experiments, and project work. It encourages the use of various resources, including textbooks, online materials, and expert consultations. Assessment is both formative and summative, with continuous assessment contributing 30% and the national Form IV examination contributing 70% to the final grade. The curriculum allocates five 40-minute periods per week for Agriculture.
