Tanzania Ordinary Secondary Education Form III-IV Curriculum - Textile and Garment Construction

This curriculum is designed for students in Forms III-IV of Ordinary Secondary Education in Tanzania. It aims to equip students with fundamental garment construction skills, enabling them to design, create patterns, and construct garments. The curriculum also emphasizes tailoring skills, fostering creativity and self-employment opportunities.

Form III

  • Elements and Principles of Design: Students learn about the elements and principles of design in clothing construction, including line, balance, texture, shape, space, color, emphasis, and alignment. They create a portfolio showcasing different garment designs.
  • Fabric Selection: Students analyze the effect of body figure and learn to choose appropriate fabrics for different garments, considering patterns, lines, color, and texture.
  • Pattern Making: Students prepare patterns for a dress, shorts, or trousers, taking body measurements, drafting, adapting, laying out, and cutting out garment sections.
  • Garment Construction: Students learn to assemble and construct a dress, shorts, or trousers, applying appropriate garment-making processes.
  • Clothing Care: Students learn various practices for clothing care, including daily, routine, and preventative methods. They also practice stain removal and learn about care labeling.

Form IV

  • Decorative Processes: Students learn principles and techniques for decorative processes in garments, such as appliqué, scallops, smoking, faggoting, piping, and binding. They create a portfolio of prototypes demonstrating these techniques.
  • Fabric Selection for Children's Garments: Students learn factors to consider when choosing fabrics for children's garments.
  • Pattern Making for Children's Garments: Students prepare patterns for a child's garment, drafting and adapting patterns based on standard measurements.
  • Garment Construction with Decorative Techniques: Students apply decorative techniques learned earlier to construct a child's garment.
  • Personal Wardrobe Planning: Students develop a personal wardrobe plan, including creating a wardrobe inventory and planning chart.
  • Professionalism and Ethics: Students learn about professionalism and ethics in tailoring, focusing on ethical conduct and good customer care.
