Tanzania Ordinary Secondary Education Form III-IV Curriculum - Sports

This curriculum outlines the Sport Studies subject for Forms I-IV in the Sports stream of the General Education pathway. It's also an elective for other streams. The curriculum aims to equip students with knowledge, practical skills, social skills, and positive attitudes for success. It emphasizes sports science, skills, rules, play, health, safety, and ethical behavior, fostering values like respect, teamwork, discipline, and responsibility. The curriculum also aims to prepare students for self-employment, employment of others, and general employability.

Form I

  • Concepts, Safety, and Ethical Conduct in Sports: This topic covers the importance of sports, games, play, physical activity, and exercise, including their relationship to health, well-being, and other disciplines. Students also learn about different categories of sports and the basic tenets of safety in sports.
  • Physical and Mental Fitness in Sports: This topic focuses on the principles of building physical and mental fitness, including their meaning, importance, attributes, and components.
  • Playing Various Sports: Students learn and practice warm-up and cool-down exercises. They also develop skills and techniques in selected sports (football and track events), observing rules and safety principles.

Form II

  • Playing Various Sports: This form expands on playing various sports, focusing on developing skills, techniques, safety measures, and rules in selected sports (netball and field events, with optional swimming or gymnastics). Students engage in practical application by playing these sports.

Form III

  • Concepts, Safety, and Ethical Conduct in Sports: This revisits ethical conduct, focusing on the basic norms and values in sports within the Tanzanian context.
  • Playing Various Sports: Students develop skills and techniques in basketball and table tennis (with optional tennis or badminton), playing these sports while observing rules and safety principles.
  • Fundamentals of Health and Safety in Sports: This topic explores common risk behaviors in sports (e.g., doping and substance abuse), their effects, and mitigation strategies.

Form IV

  • Playing Various Sports: Students further develop skills and techniques in volleyball and handball (with optional cricket or hockey), playing these sports while observing rules and safety principles.
  • Fundamentals of Health and Safety in Sports: This form delves into the relationship between nutrition, body composition, and performance in different sports.
