Tanzania Form V-VI School Syllabus - Other Combinations

The Tanzania Form V-VI education system, also known as Advanced Level (A-Level), builds upon the foundation laid in Ordinary Level (O-Level). Students specialize in subject combinations grouped into various learning areas, preparing them for higher education and specific career paths. The curriculum is regularly updated by the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) to meet evolving educational needs.

Subject Combinations and Learning Areas

Form V-VI students typically select three subjects within a combination. These combinations are categorized into seven learning areas:

  • Sciences: Combinations like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) cater to students interested in STEM fields.
  • Social Sciences: Combinations such as History, Geography, and Kiswahili (HGK) and History, Geography, and English Language (HGL) focus on humanities and social sciences.
  • Languages: Students can combine various languages like Kiswahili, English, and French.
  • Business Studies: Combinations like Economics, Business Studies, and Accountancy (EBuAc) prepare students for business-related careers.
  • Arts: Combinations involving subjects like Fine Art, Music, and Theatre Arts focus on creative expression.
  • Religious Education: Combinations may include subjects like Divinity and Islamic Studies.
  • Sports: Sports Studies can be combined with other relevant subjects.

Specific Combination Examples

  • HGL (History, Geography, and English Language): This combination is suitable for students interested in fields like journalism, law, international relations, and education.
  • PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology): This combination is geared towards students pursuing careers in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and other health-related fields.
  • EGM (Economics, Geography, and Mathematics): This combination is relevant for students interested in economics, finance, statistics, and urban planning.
  • PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics): This combination is designed for students aspiring to careers in engineering, architecture, and computer science.

Syllabus Structure

The Form V-VI syllabus for each subject outlines specific objectives, teaching and learning strategies, assessment methods, and the content to be covered. The syllabi are designed to be competency-based, focusing on developing practical skills and knowledge. Students are assessed through continuous assessments and final examinations conducted by the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA).
