Tanzania Standard 7/Form 1 Curriculum - Information and Computer Studies
This curriculum is based on the 2005 Information and Computer Studies Syllabus for Secondary Schools in Tanzania.
Form One
- Information: This topic introduces students to the fundamental concepts of information and communication.
- Concept of Information: Students define data, differentiate between data and information, identify sources of information, and understand the importance of information.
- Information Dissemination: This subtopic explores traditional and modern methods of disseminating information. Students learn about historical methods like songs and stories, as well as contemporary methods using technology.
- Computers: This section covers the basics of computer hardware and software. Students learn about different computer components and their functions. This includes input devices, output devices, and the central processing unit. Additionally, they are introduced to operating systems and their role in managing files and folders. The historical development of computers is also covered, providing students with context and an understanding of technological advancements.
Form Two
- Word Processing: Students develop skills in creating and manipulating word documents. This includes formatting text, inserting images, and organizing content.
- Spreadsheets: This topic introduces students to spreadsheet software and its applications in data processing and analysis. They learn how to perform calculations, create charts, and use formulas to manipulate data.
- Computer Networks: Students learn about different types of computer networks and how they are used to access information. This includes local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).
- Internet: This section covers the basics of the internet and its applications. Students learn how to access information online, use search engines, and communicate through email and other online platforms.
Form Three
- Computers in Daily Life: This topic explores the various ways computers are used in everyday life, including education, business, and entertainment. Students analyze the importance of computers in society and their impact on different aspects of life.
- Impact of ICT: Students examine the broader impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on society, including its effects on social interactions, economic development, and cultural changes.
- Website Development: This section introduces students to the basics of website development. They learn how to create web pages using HTML and other web technologies.
- Databases: Students learn about databases and their use in organizing, storing, and retrieving information. They are introduced to database management systems and learn how to create and manage databases.
Form Four
- Database Management: This topic builds upon the database concepts introduced in Form Three. Students develop advanced skills in managing databases, including querying and manipulating data.
- Presentations: Students learn how to create and deliver effective presentations using presentation software. This includes designing slides, incorporating multimedia elements, and presenting information in a clear and engaging manner.
- Desktop Publishing: This section covers the principles of desktop publishing and its applications in creating professional-looking documents. Students learn how to use design software to create layouts, incorporate graphics, and prepare documents for print.
- Multimedia Publications: Students explore the use of multimedia technology in creating interactive and engaging publications. This includes incorporating video, audio, and other multimedia elements into their projects.
