Tanzania Standard 1 Syllabus - Writing

This syllabus outlines the writing curriculum for Standard 1 in Tanzania, focusing on developing fundamental writing skills. It is based on the 2023 Primary Education Syllabus Standard I – II.

Main Competence: Writing

This main competence is broken down into three specific competences:

  • Develop Pre-writing Skills: This focuses on building the foundational motor skills necessary for writing. Activities include practicing pencil grip, correct sitting posture, and molding letter shapes.
  • Develop Basic Writing Skills: This involves learning to write small and capital letters step-by-step, joining letters to form simple words, and joining words to form simple sentences.
  • Apply Basic Writing Skills: This competence aims to apply the learned skills by writing simple texts and using basic punctuation marks, such as full stops, commas, and question marks.

Textbook:

The Writing Standard Pupil's Book is used for handwriting instruction. It starts with pre-writing exercises and gradually introduces unjoined letters, progressing to continuous cursive writing in Standard 2.
