Tanzania Standard 7/Form 1 Curriculum - Kiswahili

This curriculum for Kiswahili is designed to develop communicative competence in students, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. It covers Standard 7 (primary school) and Form 1 (secondary school). The curriculum is implemented in Kiswahili for schools using Kiswahili as the medium of instruction and in English for schools using English as the medium of instruction. However, Kiswahili subject is taught in Kiswahili regardless of the school's medium of instruction.

Standard 7 Kiswahili Curriculum:

This level builds upon the foundation laid in previous years, emphasizing the practical application of Kiswahili in various contexts.

  • Communication in Diverse Contexts: Students learn to identify different sounds in syllables, words, sentences, and passages. They develop conversational skills and use written Kiswahili for communication in various situations.
  • Comprehension: Students demonstrate understanding of spoken and written Kiswahili. They practice reading fluency and comprehension of different texts.
  • Vocabulary Usage: Students expand their vocabulary and learn to use it effectively in both spoken and written communication. They analyze ideas presented in different texts.

Form 1 Kiswahili Curriculum:

This level marks the transition to secondary school and focuses on more advanced language skills.

  • Communication in Diverse Contexts: Students engage in more complex conversations and use written Kiswahili for various communicative purposes.
  • Comprehension: Students demonstrate a deeper understanding of listened and read materials. They analyze ideas and arguments presented in different texts.
  • Vocabulary Usage: Students continue to expand their vocabulary and learn to use it effectively in various contexts, including presenting arguments and writing different types of texts.
