Number Theory

  • Number Systems:
      • Base Ten Numeration: Students learn about place value, reading, writing, and applying numbers in daily life.
      • Natural and Whole Numbers: Students learn to distinguish between natural and whole numbers, and identify even, odd, and prime numbers. They also learn to represent these numbers on a number line.
      • Integers: Students learn to identify, add, subtract, multiply, divide, and perform mixed operations on integers.
      • Rational Numbers: Students learn to define and perform basic operations on rational numbers.
      • Irrational Numbers: Students learn to define irrational numbers.
      • Real Numbers: Students learn to define real numbers, find absolute values, and solve related practical problems.
  • Factors and Multiples: Students learn to find factors of a number, use factors to find the greatest common factor (GCF), and use factors or multiples to find the lowest common multiple (LCM).
  • Fractions: Students learn about proper, improper, and mixed numbers; simplifying fractions; identifying equivalent fractions; arranging fractions in order of size; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions; performing mixed operations on fractions; and solving word problems involving fractions.
  • Decimals and Percentages: Students learn the concept of decimals, convert fractions and decimals to percentages and vice-versa, perform operations on decimals, and solve word problems involving decimals and percentages.
  • Approximations: Students learn to round off whole numbers and decimals, work with significant figures, and perform approximations in calculations.

Algebra

  • Algebraic Operations: Students learn to use symbols to form and simplify algebraic expressions.
  • Equations: Students learn to solve equations in one unknown, form and solve equations from word problems, and solve simultaneous linear equations.
  • Inequalities: Students learn to solve linear inequalities in one unknown and form linear inequalities from practical situations.

Geometry

  • Points, Lines, and Angles: Students learn the concepts of points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles. They also learn to draw and measure angles.
  • Constructions: Students learn to construct perpendicular bisectors, angles, parallel lines, and copy given angles. They also learn to identify different types of angles formed by parallel lines and a transversal.
  • Polygons and Circles: Students learn about polygons, regions, different types of triangles and quadrilaterals, and circles. They also learn to construct these shapes and describe their properties.

Measurements

  • Units of Measurement: Students learn about units of length, mass, time, and capacity, and how to convert between them. They also learn to perform computations involving these units.
