Tanzania Standard 2 Curriculum - Art

The Tanzania Standard 2 Curriculum combines Art with Sport under the subject "Developing Sports and Arts". The curriculum emphasizes learner-centered teaching and learning approaches. It focuses on developing skills in five key competence areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Healthcare and the Environment, and Developing Sports and Arts.

Developing Sports and Arts

This area focuses on developing pupils' creativity, physical abilities, and artistic expression. It includes the following subtopics:

  • Playing Simple Games: Pupils learn to play simple games following the rules, including children's familiar games, physical exercises, ball games, and athletics. Activities include playing Bao, a traditional Tanzanian board game.
  • Drawing, Decorating, and Modeling: Pupils learn to draw letters and numerals in three dimensions and decorate them. They also practice modeling letters and numerals using various materials and printing motifs (patterns).
  • Singing and Playing Simple Musical Instruments: Pupils sing songs and play musical instruments to promote reading, writing, and early mathematics skills.
  • Performing Arts/Role Play: Pupils perform plays that promote reading, writing, and early mathematics skills.
