Tanzania Standard 2 Curriculum - Music
Music in Standard 2 is part of the "Developing Sports and Arts" competency area, which supports the development of core skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. This area aims to develop pupils physically, psychologically, morally, and socially.
The curriculum focuses on the following competencies within "Developing Sports and Arts":
- Playing familiar games: This involves active participation in common children's games, promoting physical activity and social interaction.
- Demonstrating ethical conduct in sports: Pupils learn the importance of fair play, respect for rules, and good sportsmanship.
- Abiding by the principles of games and arts: This includes understanding and following rules, respecting others' contributions, and working collaboratively.
- Communicating through arts: Pupils learn to express themselves creatively through music, promoting self-expression and communication skills.
- Innovating and strengthening sports and art skills: This encourages pupils to explore their creativity, develop new skills, and improve existing ones.
Time allocation for "Developing Sports and Arts," including music, is 1 hour per week, divided into two 30-minute periods. This represents 13% of the total learning time, with the remaining time dedicated to the 3Rs (80%) and Religious Education (7%).
