This information is derived from the Basic Education Core Curriculum B.E. 2551 (A.D. 2008) published by the Ministry of Education, Thailand.
Vocations and Technology learning is designed to cultivate a holistic understanding of practical skills, technological applications, and career awareness, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and responsible resource management.
Curriculum Goals: Upon completing Mattayom 2 (equivalent to Grade 8), students should:
- Understand work processes and apply management and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrate diligence, patience, responsibility, and honesty in their work habits.
- Understand the evolution of technology and apply technological processes to create objects or solve problems safely.
- Utilize computers effectively for data management, graphics, and documentation.
- Develop an awareness of career options and the importance of ethical work practices.
Curriculum Strands and Standards:
- Strand 1: Living and Family (O1.1): This strand focuses on applying the concept of work to daily life, emphasizing self-reliance, family contribution, and community service. Students are encouraged to develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and an awareness of resource conservation. At the Mattayom 2 level, students should be able to discuss guidelines for working and improving each stage of work, apply management and teamwork skills, and conduct themselves appropriately when working with others.
- Strand 2: Design and Technology (O2.1): This strand encourages creative thinking and problem-solving through design and technological processes. Students learn to construct objects and utensils safely, applying their knowledge and skills to create or improve products. Mattayom 2 students should be able to explain the technological process, safely construct objects and utensils or methodologies, and convey their design ideas through three-dimensional sketches or projected pictures.
- Strand 3: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) (O3.1): This strand focuses on developing a foundational understanding of ICT, including data searching, communication, and problem-solving. Students learn to use computers effectively and responsibly. Mattayom 2 students should be able to explain basic principles of communicating data and computer networks, understand principles and methods of problem-solving through ICT processes, and search for data and communicate through computer networks ethically.
- Strand 4: Occupations (O4.1): This strand aims to develop career awareness and a positive attitude towards work. Students explore different occupations, learn about required skills and qualifications, and begin to consider their future career paths. Mattayom 2 students should be able to explain the process of strengthening occupational skills, specify how to prepare for entering employment, and develop basic skills required for occupations of interest.
Learning Time Allocation:
The recommended minimum learning time for Vocations and Technology at the Mattayom 2 level is 80 hours per year (2 credits per semester). Schools can increase this allocation based on their resources and priorities.
Assessment:
Assessment should be continuous and comprehensive, focusing on both practical skills and theoretical understanding. Methods may include observation, project work, presentations, and written assessments. Evaluation should consider the student's progress in each strand, their work habits, and their developing career awareness. |
