Thailand Mattayom 2 Curriculum - Arts

The Basic Education Core Curriculum B.E. 2551 (A.D. 2008) provides the framework for the Mattayom 2 (Grade 8) Arts curriculum in Thailand. This curriculum emphasizes the development of creativity, artistic imagination, and an appreciation for beauty and aesthetics. It aims to foster holistic development across physical, mental, intellectual, emotional, and social domains. The curriculum is designed to provide students with opportunities for free expression in various art forms.

The Arts curriculum encompasses three primary strands:

  • Visual Arts: This strand focuses on developing students' understanding of composition, visual elements, and the use of various materials and instruments. Students are encouraged to create works of visual art based on imagination and creativity, applying artistic techniques and methods. The curriculum also emphasizes the ability to analyze and critique works of art, appreciating their cultural and historical context.
  • Music: This strand aims to develop students' understanding of musical composition, sound, and the use of various instruments. Students learn to express themselves through music, both vocally and instrumentally. The curriculum also covers reading and writing music scores, understanding musical elements, and appreciating the relationship between music, culture, and history.
  • Dramatic Arts: This strand focuses on developing students' creative expression through movement, gesture, and performance. Students learn basic dramatic arts vocabulary, explore various forms of movement, and participate in performances. The curriculum also emphasizes understanding the relationship between dramatic arts, culture, and history.

The curriculum emphasizes learner-centered activities and encourages students to explore their own creativity and artistic potential. It also promotes an understanding of the role of arts in daily life and society.
