Thailand Matthayom 3 Curriculum - Foreign Languages

Matthayom 3 is the final year of lower secondary education in Thailand, equivalent to Grade 9. Lower secondary education (Matthayom 1-3) is compulsory. Students typically start Matthayom 3 at age 14. After Matthayom 3, students can choose to pursue upper-secondary education (Matthayom 4-6) in a university-preparatory track or vocational school.

Foreign Languages Curriculum

Foreign languages are one of the eight core subjects in the National Curriculum. English is a commonly taught foreign language. Some schools offer bilingual programs where subjects are taught in both Thai and English. Information on specific foreign language curricula for Matthayom 3 is limited, but some schools provide details on their websites. For example, Assumption College provides a syllabus for their Mathayom 3 English program, covering vocabulary, grammar, functional language, and skills. The English Room also offers modules for Matthayom 3 covering various topics such as lifestyles, travel, media, and the future. Some international schools in Thailand follow the UK National Curriculum for Key Stage 3, which includes foreign languages.
