Thailand Matthayom 3 Curriculum - Thai Language

The Thai Language curriculum for Matthayom 3 (Grades 7-9) focuses on developing well-rounded language skills, emphasizing reading, writing, listening, speaking, and understanding the principles of Thai language usage, literature, and literary works. The curriculum aims to equip students with the necessary skills for effective communication, critical thinking, and cultural appreciation.

Reading

Students are expected to develop proficient reading skills, including accurate pronunciation, reading aloud with appropriate intonation, and silent reading for comprehension. They should be able to understand both explicit and implicit meanings, identify main ideas and supporting details, differentiate between facts and opinions, and apply knowledge gained from reading to real-life situations. The curriculum encourages students to develop a reading habit and appreciate various forms of literature.

Writing

Writing skills are developed through various activities, such as writing communications, compositions, synopses, and reports. Students are expected to write clearly and accurately, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. They should be able to express their thoughts and ideas effectively, use diagrams and mind-maps to organize their writing, and write creatively.

Listening, Viewing, and Speaking

This strand focuses on developing students' ability to listen and view critically, and express themselves effectively in different situations. Students should be able to understand and summarize information from spoken and visual media, ask and answer questions logically, analyze reliability of information, and present verbal reports. The curriculum emphasizes good listening, viewing, and speaking manners.

Principles of Thai Language Usage

Students learn about the nature and rules of the Thai language, including spelling, vocabulary, sentence structure, and the use of idioms and proverbs. They are also introduced to different language levels (formal, informal) and the influence of dialects and foreign languages on Thai.

Literature and Literary Works

This strand aims to cultivate an appreciation for Thai literature and literary works. Students learn to analyze characters, themes, and cultural values reflected in literature, and apply insights gained from reading to real-life situations. They also learn about different forms of literary works, such as folk tales, poems, and songs. Memorization of selected literary pieces is also encouraged.
