Thailand Prathom 3 Curriculum - Mathematics
The Basic Education Core Curriculum B.E. 2551 (A.D. 2008) outlines the learning standards for Mathematics in Thailand. The curriculum aims to develop logical and systematic thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations. It emphasizes a learner-centered approach, recognizing that all students are capable of learning and developing their mathematical potential.
Learning Areas and Strands:
The Mathematics curriculum covers six main learning areas:
1. Numbers and Operations: Understanding different ways of representing numbers and applying them to real-life situations. This includes understanding the results of operations, relationships between operations, estimation, and the numerical system.
2. Measurement: Understanding basic measurement principles, performing measurements, and estimating sizes. This includes length, distance, weight, area, volume, capacity, money, and time.
3. Geometry: Explaining and analyzing two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometric figures. This includes visualization, spatial reasoning, and using geometric models for problem-solving.
4. Algebra: Understanding and analyzing patterns, relations, and functions. This includes applying and interpreting algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, graphs, and other mathematical models.
5. Data Analysis and Probability: Understanding and applying statistical methods for data analysis, including data collection, organization, presentation, analysis, and interpretation. This also includes using statistics and probability for estimation and decision-making.
6. Mathematical Skills and Processes: Developing problem-solving abilities, reasoning, communication, and presentation of mathematical concepts. This includes linking mathematical knowledge across different areas and to other disciplines, as well as fostering creative thinking.
Prathom 3 Learning Outcomes:
By the end of Prathom 3, students are expected to:
- Understand cardinal numbers up to 100,000 and zero, as well as basic number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). They should be able to solve problems involving these operations and assess the validity of their answers.
- Understand basic measurement concepts for length, distance, weight, volume, capacity, time, and money. They should be able to perform accurate measurements and apply this knowledge to problem-solving.
- Recognize and understand basic geometric shapes, including triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, ellipses, cuboids, spheres, and cylinders, as well as points, line segments, and angles.
- Recognize and explain simple patterns and relationships.
- Collect, analyze, and present data using pictograms and bar charts.
- Apply various problem-solving methods, using mathematical knowledge, skills, and processes appropriately. They should be able to present their reasoning and conclusions effectively.
