Timor-Leste Grade 3 Curriculum - Natural Science

Timor-Leste's Ministry of Education has been implementing a new national curriculum for preschool and the first six years of primary school. This curriculum aims to improve literacy and numeracy, and reduce student dropout rates. It has been rolled out in stages. The new curriculum emphasizes using the local language, Tetum, in the early grades, with Portuguese gradually introduced throughout elementary school. The curriculum for Grades 1-6 has been implemented, and is now underway for Grades 7-9.

Specific details about the Grade 3 Natural Science curriculum are limited, but the following resources are available:

  • Grade 3 Science Unit Lesson Plans (Tetum): A sample lesson plan on "Push and Pull" is available, with the complete 829-page book also accessible.
  • Grade 3 Anthology (Bilingual Portuguese and Tetum): This resource is mentioned as part of the curriculum materials.

The implementation of the new curriculum has been studied, with research exploring how teachers utilize the provided lesson plans and adapt their teaching methods. Additional research has focused on the impact of the curriculum reforms on student learning outcomes.
