Togo Collège (Lower Secondary) Subjects - English

Lower secondary education in Togo, known as Enseignement du Second Degré, takes place in collèges d'enseignement général and lasts for four years. Students who successfully complete this level of education receive the Brevet d'Études du Premier Cycle du Second Degré (BEPC) diploma.

English is a subject taught at this level. A reform announced in September 2022 increased the volume of English instruction to four hours per week for students in sixième through troisième (the equivalent of grades 6-9). Another initiative, starting in the 2022-2023 school year, introduced English courses in primary schools starting from the second grade.

While a detailed syllabus for English in lower secondary schools in Togo could not be located, the available information suggests a focus on developing fundamental language skills. The BEPC English exam assesses comprehension, reading, and writing abilities.
