Togo Secondary School Subjects: Science

Science education in Togo's secondary schools follows a structure similar to the French system. While detailed specifics about the national curriculum are difficult to find publicly, some information can be gleaned from international schools and general overviews of the Togolese education system.

Lower Secondary School (Collège d'enseignement général):

Lower secondary school spans four years. Students are typically streamed into either vocational/technical or general lower secondary schools. Science is a core subject, and based on information from RocApply, it appears students study at least one science subject, choosing from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Other subjects include Mathematics, French, English, History, and Geography. Upon completion, students earn the Brevet d'Études du Premier Cycle du Second Degré (BEPC).

Upper Secondary School (Lycée):

Upper secondary school lasts three years and offers both general and technical tracks. Students continue their studies in science, likely specializing further in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. After the second year, students take the Baccalauréat de l'Enseignement Secondaire Premiere Partie exam. A three-year upper secondary program leads to the Baccalauréat de l'Enseignement du Second Degré.

International Schools:

International schools in Togo, such as the QSI International School of Togo and the American International School of Lomé, offer a more internationally aligned curriculum. These schools typically include Biology, Physics, and Chemistry as separate science subjects within their secondary programs.
