Tunisia Basic Education Syllabus - Geography

The Tunisian education system places a strong emphasis on basic education, which is compulsory for nine years. This period is divided into six years of primary school and three years of preparatory education (lower secondary). Geography is introduced as a subject in the primary cycle and continues in the preparatory cycle.

Primary Education:

Geography is introduced in the 3rd grade with a focus on basic geographical concepts. The subject is allocated 40 minutes per week. In the subsequent years, 5th and 6th grades, the allocated time increases to 45 minutes and 1 hour per week, respectively.

Preparatory Education (Lower Secondary):

Geography continues to be a part of the curriculum in the preparatory cycle, with a consistent allocation of 1.5 hours per week throughout the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades.

While the specific learning objectives for 9th-grade Geography are not readily available, the overall curriculum for Basic Education aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of various subjects, including Geography. The focus is on developing basic knowledge and skills that prepare students for further studies in secondary education.
