Turkey Primary School Grade 1 Curriculum - Sports

This course, titled "Games and Physical Activities," aims to develop students' fundamental movement skills, active and healthy lifestyle habits, concepts, strategies, and related life skills and values through games and physical activities, preparing them for the next educational level. The curriculum is divided into two learning areas:

1. Movement Competency:

  • Movement Skills: Students learn and perform locomotor movements (walking, running, jumping, hopping, skipping, galloping, sliding, leaping), balancing movements (static and dynamic balance, rolling, bending, stretching, twisting, turning, etc.), and object control skills (throwing, catching, kicking, striking, dribbling, etc.). They also play simple games with rules that combine two or more movement skills.
  • Movement Concepts and Principles: Students learn to identify body parts and their movements, recognize personal and general space, and relate a series of movements to appropriate fundamental movement skill groups. They also learn to play games according to established rules.
  • Movement Strategies and Tactics: Students develop strategies to maintain balance while performing fundamental movements and identify simple strategies used in games.

2. Active and Healthy Life:

  • Regular Physical Activity: Students participate regularly in games and physical activities, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Physical Activity Concepts, Principles, and Related Life Skills: Students learn about the relationship between health and physical activity, describe changes in their bodies during physical activity, and identify factors to consider for health and safety during participation. They also exhibit balanced and regular eating habits, practice hygiene, play in safe areas, demonstrate communication skills, and understand that individual strengths and abilities can differ.
  • Cultural Heritage and Values: Students participate in celebrations, festivals, and ceremonies, perform basic steps of traditional folk dances, and play traditional children's games.
