Astronomy and Space Sciences in Turkish High Schools
While detailed information about the Turkey Lise 12th Grade Astronomy and Space Sciences curriculum is currently unavailable, some information can be gleaned from available resources.
A new astronomy curriculum pilot program has been proposed for science high schools in Turkey. This program includes three extended astronomy and astrophysics courses. One of these courses has been implemented. A presentation on this new program was given on November 16, 2022. A video of a presentation on the program is also available.
Historically, astronomy has been included in the Turkish curriculum. In primary school, astronomy content is found in Science lesson plans starting from grade 3 and increasing in grades 5-8. In secondary education, astronomy is covered in science courses. In 1974, astronomy was removed as a separate elective course in high schools. However, there have been efforts to reintroduce and expand astronomy education in Turkish high schools. |
