Turkey Hayat Bilgisi Curriculum - 2nd Grade

This curriculum aims to equip students with fundamental life skills, fostering self-awareness, healthy living, social responsibility, and an appreciation for their country and the natural world. The curriculum is structured around six units, each exploring different aspects of a child's life and environment.

1. Okulumuzda Hayat (Life at Our School)

3. Sağlıklı Hayat (Healthy Life)

This unit promotes healthy habits and well-being, focusing on personal hygiene, nutrition, and the importance of a balanced lifestyle. Students learn about healthy food choices, the benefits of exercise, and the importance of maintaining personal hygiene. Key topics include:

  • Relationship between personal hygiene, exercise, sleep, and nutrition for healthy growth
  • Creating balanced meal plans
  • Table manners and mindful eating
  • Importance of cleanliness for a healthy life
  • Healthcare institutions and professions
  • Seasonal fruits and vegetables and their health benefits
  • Choosing appropriate clothing for different weather conditions

4. Güvenli Hayat (Safe Life)

This unit emphasizes safety awareness and responsible behavior in various situations, including at school, at home, and during travel. Students learn about traffic rules, emergency procedures, and how to seek help in emergencies. Key topics include:

  • Different modes of transportation and related safety rules
  • Road safety for pedestrians and passengers
  • Helping others in need while maintaining personal safety
  • Emergency contact numbers and procedures
  • Safe use of technological devices and playground equipment
  • Identifying safe and unsafe areas

5. Ülkemizde Hayat (Life in Our Country)

This unit introduces students to their national identity, cultural heritage, and the importance of national unity. Students learn about their country's symbols, national holidays, and the diversity of its culture. Key topics include:

  • Locating Turkey, its capital, and their hometown on a map and globe
  • Significance of the Turkish flag and national anthem
  • Researching Atatürk's childhood
  • Importance of national and religious holidays
  • Exploring local cultural heritage
  • Respecting different cultures
  • Observing local production activities

6. Doğada Hayat (Life in Nature)

This unit fosters an appreciation for nature and environmental awareness, focusing on the interdependence of living things and the importance of conservation. Students learn about plants, animals, natural phenomena, and environmental protection. Key topics include:

  • Comparing the living conditions of plants and animals
  • Importance of growing plants and caring for animals
  • Impact of natural elements on human life
  • Recycling and its benefits

  • Taking responsibility for protecting nature and the environment
