Turkey 2nd Grade Curriculum - Turkish Language

This curriculum is designed for Turkish children living abroad and aims to improve their Turkish language skills and cultural understanding. It covers eight grades of primary education, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, along with cultural themes. The curriculum is designed to be adaptable to multi-grade classrooms and diverse student needs.

Learning and Teaching Process:

The curriculum emphasizes learner-centered approaches, adapting to different age groups and proficiency levels. It encourages active student participation through cooperative learning, group work, and individualized instruction. Relating learning to real-life situations is also emphasized, making learning more meaningful and fostering positive attitudes. Teachers are expected to consider individual student needs and create a comfortable learning environment. Homework is considered important for reinforcing learning, with a focus on activity-based assignments.

Measurement and Assessment:

The curriculum is not tied to academic success but focuses on cultural learning and language improvement in a relaxed environment. Teacher observation is crucial for monitoring student development, using tools like checklists, grading keys, self-assessment, peer review, and observation forms. Assessment focuses on cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills, emphasizing individual and cooperative learning.

Eight themes are identified for each grade, with sub-themes arranged hierarchically. While the themes are listed alphabetically in the curriculum document, a suggested ranking for textbook preparation is provided:

For second grade, the curriculum emphasizes distinguishing Turkish sounds and letters, following verbal instructions, engaging in dialogues, expressing opinions, using basic vocabulary, reading simple sentences and short texts, writing letters and words correctly, and adhering to basic spelling and punctuation rules. The curriculum also includes tables outlining these learning outcomes and their explanations for each grade level.
