Turkey 3rd Grade Foreign Language (English) Curriculum
This curriculum builds upon the 2nd-grade curriculum, aiming to expand students' English vocabulary and encourage its use both inside and outside the classroom. The curriculum emphasizes communicative learning and teaching methods, focusing on listening and speaking skills. It incorporates visual, auditory, and audiovisual tools, along with enriched game-based activities, to facilitate language acquisition. Limited reading and writing activities are included, primarily through projects and out-of-class tasks. The curriculum follows a spiral structure, building upon previously learned vocabulary and structures.
The curriculum is organized around the following themes:
- Greeting: Students learn basic greetings, introductions, the alphabet, and numbers up to 20.
- My Family: Students learn kinship terms and how to introduce their family members.
- People I Love: Students learn to describe physical qualities and abilities.
- Feelings: Students learn to express personal feelings and make simple suggestions.
- Toys and Games: Students learn the names of toys, discuss quantities and colors, and talk about possessions.
- My House: Students learn the names of rooms in a house, describe shapes and sizes, discuss locations, and talk about possessions.
- In My City: Students learn about different types of buildings and their locations within a city, and practice apologizing.
- Transportation: Students learn about different modes of transportation and their locations.
- Weather: Students learn to describe various weather conditions.
- Nature: Students learn about nature, animals, and express likes and dislikes.
