Turkey Primary School Level 2 (5th Grade) Curriculum - Arts and Crafts

This curriculum focuses on students internalizing learned information and appreciating art. Students will develop visual art studies, expressing personal values and ideas. The application of art components and design principles in their work is emphasized.

Visual Communication and Design

  • Application Process: Students will understand and apply the artistic process from brainstorming to the realization of a visual art study, including sketching and detailing.
  • Location: Students will use measurement and ratio to depict location in their visual art studies.
  • Perspective: Students will learn and apply aerial perspective in their work.
  • Figure Drawing: Students will practice drawing human figures based on observation and proportions.
  • Materials: Students will use various materials in their visual art studies, including, but not limited to, videos, computers, cameras, and tablets (depending on school resources).
  • Three-Dimensional Art: Students will create relief or sculptural pieces using three-dimensional art materials.
  • Components and Principles: Students will apply art components (color, light, dark, tones) and design principles (form: concave, convex, negative, positive; texture: surface embroidery; value: intensity of color, graduation; balance: symmetrical, asymmetrical).

Cultural Heritage

  • Cultural Comparison: Students will explain the similarities and differences between artworks and artists from different cultures, with a focus on Turkish culture.
  • Historical Context: Students will differentiate between historical and contemporary artworks.
  • Museums: Students will understand the relationship between museums and visual arts, including museum types and their contribution to cultural heritage.
  • Materials and Professions: Students will identify the relationship between art materials and the various types of artists in the visual arts field.

Art Criticism and Aesthetics

  • Environment: Students will compare natural and constructed environments.
  • Visual Analysis: Students will analyze the visual characteristics of selected artworks.
  • Interpretation: Students will interpret the content of selected artworks.
  • Contextual Analysis: Students will analyze artworks based on the period and conditions in which they were created, including the artist's environment, the function of the artwork, and religious, intellectual, and cultural influences.
  • Self-Analysis: Students will analyze their own visual art studies, expressing how their work is influenced by their environment and living conditions.
  • Aesthetic Judgment: Students will learn why artworks are evaluated differently, considering that aesthetic judgments can vary based on sensual, economic, historical, socio-cultural, and functional factors.
  • Ethics: Students will adhere to ethical rules in visual art studies.
