Turkey Ortaokul 7th & 8th Grade Curriculum - Turkish Language

The Turkish Language curriculum for 7th and 8th grades in Ortaokul (middle school) focuses on developing fundamental language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Research evaluating the 2019 curriculum assesses these skills and their outcomes. One study examines the curriculum's effectiveness in teaching main ideas within the context of PISA 2018 Reading Skills Test. Another study explores the learning outcomes of the Turkish Language Teaching Curriculum (Grades 1-8) through an interactionist framework.

The curriculum also emphasizes cognitive academic language proficiency, such as comparing, classifying, synthesizing, evaluating, and inferring. Elements of Turkish culture are incorporated into the curriculum through various themes and sub-themes. One example from available resources for 8th grade literacy includes the topic "Conjunctions – Sentences" with the objective of using conjunctions to enhance sentence variety. In 7th and 8th grades, students build upon their literacy foundation and engage with more complex reading and writing activities.
