Guidance and Career Planning (8th Grade)

This curriculum is designed to support students' academic, career, and social-emotional development. It emphasizes a holistic approach, focusing on students' strengths and positive attributes. The curriculum incorporates core values (justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, helpfulness) and character strengths (perseverance, love of learning, curiosity, hope, kindness, social intelligence, zest, bravery, prudence, forgiveness, gratitude, humor).

Academic Development

This area aims to help students adapt to their school environment, develop a sense of belonging, and take responsibility for their learning. It encourages them to develop academic understanding, responsibility, self-regulation skills, and effective learning strategies. Two specific learning outcomes are highlighted for 8th grade:

  • Students recognize that lifelong learning is a continuous process.
  • Students organize their learning environments.

Career Development

This area focuses on helping students develop career awareness, make career preparations, and implement career plans. It encourages them to understand that careers can evolve and change, to use reliable career information resources, and to make informed career decisions. The following learning outcomes are emphasized for 8th grade:

  • Students identify their abilities and interests based on the activities they can do and enjoy.
  • Students participate in activities in or outside of school, taking their interests and abilities into account.
  • Students compare their career goals with their career expectations.
  • Students relate their own characteristics to the characteristics of the high school types they want to choose.
  • Students use decision-making skills when choosing a high school type.
  • Students compare their own opinions with the opinions of their family and close circle when making high school type choices.
  • Students re-evaluate their decision regarding high school type.

Social-Emotional Development

This area aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in social groups. It emphasizes self-awareness, understanding and managing emotions, responsible decision-making, ensuring personal safety, and interpersonal communication skills. The following learning outcomes are highlighted for 8th grade:

  • Students exhibit self-care skills.
  • Students are aware of the factors that affect body image.
  • Students use appropriate methods to cope with stress.
  • Students explain their feelings about exams.
  • Students relate their behaviors to their values.
  • Students seek help when needed.
  • Students recognize the feelings and behaviors that support their well-being.
  • Students use appropriate ways to cope with peer pressure.
  • Students manage themselves in the use of information technologies.
  • Students realize that the difficulties encountered in life can be overcome with effort and time.
  • Students explain the importance of volunteering for society.

Overall Curriculum Structure

The curriculum is structured around learning outcomes within each development area. These outcomes are designed to be developmentally appropriate and consider students' age, cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development. The curriculum also emphasizes sensory behaviors and encourages active participation and reflective thinking. Teachers are encouraged to adapt the sequence and timing of activities based on student, school, and regional needs.
