The curriculum is structured around four main learning areas: Listening-Singing, Musical Perception and Knowledge, Musical Creativity, and Music Culture.

Learning Areas:

  • Listening-Singing: This area focuses on developing students' ability to listen attentively and sing proficiently. Students learn to sing the Turkish National Anthem correctly and with respect, along with other marches and songs related to Turkish society and culture. They also learn to identify different musical forms and makamlar (modes) in Turkish music. Emphasis is placed on proper vocal technique and the ability to sing in groups, applying appropriate dynamics and tempo.
  • Musical Perception and Knowledge: This area aims to enhance students' understanding of musical elements and notation. Students learn to identify and use basic musical notation, including notes, rests, time signatures, and key signatures. They also learn about musical intervals, scales, and rhythmic patterns. The curriculum introduces students to different musical instruments and ensembles, both from Turkey and other cultures.
  • Musical Creativity: This area encourages students to express themselves creatively through music. Students engage in activities such as composing simple melodies, creating rhythmic patterns, and improvising. They also explore different ways to interpret and express their feelings and thoughts about music through movement, dance, and other art forms.
  • Music Culture: This area aims to broaden students' understanding and appreciation of music from different cultures and historical periods. Students learn about Turkish musical traditions, including folk music, art music, and religious music. They also explore music from other parts of the world and learn about the relationship between music and other art forms. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of Atatürk's views on music and its role in Turkish culture. Students also learn about the therapeutic uses of music.
