Turkey İlköğretim 8. Sınıf Curriculum - Music
This curriculum focuses on developing students' musical skills and knowledge through four learning areas: Listening-Singing, Musical Perception and Information, Musical Creativity, and Music Culture. It emphasizes active participation, continuous improvement, and openness to innovation. The curriculum aims to foster students' appreciation for music, enhance their artistic and aesthetic perception, and develop their musical talents.
Listening-Singing
- National Anthem: Students sing the National Anthem correctly and with understanding, adhering to proper tempo and emphasis. They also learn about its historical significance and the importance of showing respect during its performance.
- Marches: Students learn and perform marches that promote national unity and togetherness.
- Turkish Music Culture: Students listen to and appreciate examples of music from various Turkish communities and traditions.
Musical Forms: Students explore various Turkish musical forms like Mevlevi ayini, perev, saz semaisi, longa, kirik hava, uzun hava, arki, ilahi, nefes, and deyi* through listening activities.
- International Music: Students listen to and enjoy performing pieces from different international musical genres.
- Vocal Groups: Students form vocal groups and perform together, developing their collaborative skills.
- Performance: Students showcase their musical work and achievements through performances.
- Local Artists: Students research and learn about local musicians and their contributions to the music scene.
- Tempo and Dynamics: Students use a metronome to perform musical pieces at appropriate tempos and apply dynamics (loudness and softness) in their performances.
Musical Perception and Information
- Music Notation: Students utilize basic music notation and elements, including syncopation and 9/8 time signatures.
Musical Modes/Scales: Students learn to recognize tonal scales (one sharp and one flat) and modal scales (kurdi, acemkurdi, and muhayyerkurdi*). This learning is focused on aural recognition and feeling, rather than in-depth theoretical analysis.
Musical Creativity
- Rhythmic Accompaniment: Students create simple rhythmic accompaniments for familiar songs. They also compose rhythmic patterns with distinct and repeating sections.
- Melody Creation: Students compose and perform their own melodies, individually or in groups. These compositions are limited to learned scales, time signatures, and durations.
- Storytelling through Music: Students explore the narratives behind folk songs and bring these stories to life through dramatizations.
Music Culture
- Music and Other Arts: Students understand the relationship between music and other art forms, such as literature, theatre, cinema, folk dances, opera, and ballet. They listen to musical pieces inspired by poems, stories, and epics.
- Music Appreciation: Students articulate their feelings and thoughts about various musical genres, including Turkish folk music, Turkish art music, popular music, religious music, military music, and polyphonic Turkish music.
- Music Archives: Students develop individual and class music archives, using technology to classify and store their musical work and research.
- Atatürk's View of Music: Students learn about Atatürk's emphasis on music within the fine arts and his role in establishing new music institutions and training musicians.
Music Therapy: Students learn about the therapeutic applications of music, particularly the use of makams* for healing.
- Music Professions: Students explore primary and secondary professions related to music, such as composer, performer, conductor, instructor, film scorer, songwriter, music journalist, music producer, and instrument maker. They may also participate in field trips related to these professions.
- Art, Artist, and Artwork: Students critically analyze and discuss the concepts of art, artist, and artwork, including music and aesthetics.
