Technology and Design (Teknoloji ve Tasarım) - 8th Grade (8. Sınıf)

This course is offered in the 7th and 8th grades of middle school within the Turkish education system. The curriculum was renewed in 2017 and revised in 2018. The course aims to equip students with the ability to think scientifically, develop individual design skills, and apply these skills to solve real-world problems. The curriculum emphasizes the integration of technology in all aspects of teaching and learning.

Learning Areas (Öğrenme Alanları)

The Technology and Design curriculum is structured around several learning areas:

• Fundamentals of Technology and Design (Teknoloji ve Tasarımın Temelleri): This area introduces basic concepts related to technology and design, including invention, discovery, science, engineering, and industry 4.0. It also covers different design fields such as industrial design, graphic design, architecture, and environmental design.
• Design Process and Promotion (Tasarım Süreci ve Tanıtım): This area focuses on the stages of the design process, from identifying a need to prototyping and testing a solution. It also covers marketing and presentation of the final product.
• Built Environment and Product (Yapılı Çevre ve Ürün): This area explores the relationship between design and the built environment, including architecture, urban planning, and product design.
• Needs and Innovation (İhtiyaçlar ve Yenilikçilik): This area encourages students to identify societal needs and develop innovative solutions using technology and design.
• Design and Technological Solutions (Tasarım ve Teknolojik Çözüm): This area focuses on the application of technology in design, including computer-aided design (CAD) and the use of smart materials and technologies.

Learning Outcomes (Kazanımlar)

The curriculum includes a set of learning outcomes for each unit, covering cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. These outcomes are designed to be integrated with other subjects such as Science, Turkish, Social Studies, Mathematics, Visual Arts, and Information Technologies and Software.
