Tuvalu Primary Education System

Tuvalu provides free and compulsory education between the ages of 6 and 15. Each of the islands has a primary school. There are twelve primary schools in total, nine of which are public, and three are private denominational schools. While the primary school completion rate is high (95%), a significant number of students (over 30%) do not transition to secondary education.

The Tuvalu Education Strategic Plans (TESP) outline the country's educational goals and strategies. The TESP III (2016-2020) focused on improving quality, relevance, and efficiency in education. The Curriculum Development unit within the Department of Education is responsible for developing and maintaining the curricula. A 2023 report mentions the Tuvalu Department of Education having an English Curriculum & Syllabus Outline from 2002, covering Classes 1-4 and 5-8. In 2023, the Institute of Education (IOE) collaborated with the Tuvalu Curriculum Officer to gather mathematics and English curriculum materials for classes 1 to 6.

While the specific Class 5 Numeracy syllabus remains elusive, the available information provides a general overview of Tuvalu's primary education system and curriculum development process. Further information may be available by contacting the Tuvalu Department of Education directly.
