Tuvalu Education System Overview

Education in Tuvalu is free and compulsory between the ages of 6 and 15. Primary education lasts for seven years (Years 1-8) and is available on each island. While a high percentage of students complete primary school (95%), the transition rate to secondary education is much lower.

Primary Education

The primary school curriculum includes subjects such as English, Mathematics, Social Science, Basic Science, Business Studies, Art & Craft, and Physical Education. Year 8 students often receive special attention from teachers, including special classes and additional tuition.

Technical and Vocational Skills Development (TVSD)

TVSD is offered in primary schools for Years 7 and 8. The materials and resources for the TVSD program are developed by the Curriculum Unit. This program aims to provide students with practical skills and prepare them for vocational pathways.
