Tuvalu Primary School Social Studies Curriculum

Tuvalu's education system provides free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 15. Every island has a primary school. There are twelve primary schools in total, nine public and three private. Nauti Primary School, located in Funafuti, is the largest with over 900 students. The primary school curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Social Science, Basic Science, Business Studies, Art & Craft, Physical Education, and Writing. Students are taught in Tuvaluan for the first three years and then transition to English. Social studies curriculum objectives sometimes overlap with science. One example of a social studies resource available for Tuvaluan teachers is a guide for Pacific teachers covering aspects of the ocean and its ecosystems.
