Uganda Primary 7 English Curriculum
This curriculum aims to equip learners with the necessary language skills for effective communication in various situations, building upon the foundation laid in previous years. It emphasizes practical application of the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The curriculum integrates these skills across different topics designed to engage learners and prepare them for secondary education.
Term I
- School Holidays: This topic focuses on developing vocabulary and language structures related to holiday planning and activities. Learners describe their holiday plans, narrate stories, and write texts related to holidays. Activities include using question tags, reported speech, and participle tense.
- Letter Writing: This topic covers both informal and formal letter writing. Learners identify the components of different letter formats, learn when to use each type, and practice writing various kinds of letters, including applications for imagined posts. Activities include using appropriate vocabulary and grammar for each letter type and understanding abbreviations.
- Examinations: This topic prepares learners for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) by familiarizing them with the language and procedures involved. Learners practice following instructions, interpreting timetables, and writing compositions related to examination preparation and the experience of sitting exams.
Term II
- Electronic Media: This topic focuses on developing vocabulary and language skills related to electronic media, including radio, television, and the internet. Learners discuss different programs, access information, and create their own media items, such as news articles and advertisements.
- Rights, Responsibilities, and Freedom: This topic explores the language of rights and responsibilities, focusing on children's rights and extending to animal welfare. Learners discuss and write about these topics, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar, including relative pronouns and future continuous tense.

Learners explore the importance of environmental protection, discuss measures for conservation, and write texts related to this topic, using abstract nouns and conditional sentences.

Throughout the curriculum, emphasis is placed on correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and handwriting. Learners are encouraged to use dictionaries and thesauruses to expand their vocabulary and improve their language skills.
