Uganda Primary 6 Mathematics Curriculum
This outlines the topics covered in the Primary 6 Mathematics curriculum in Uganda.
Term One
- Set Concepts: This topic introduces various set concepts, including types of sets (equal, unequal, equivalent, non-equivalent, universal, subsets), set operations (intersection, union, difference, complement), and Venn diagrams. It also covers applications of set concepts, such as interpreting set statements and probability.
- Whole Numbers: This topic covers numeration systems, place values, expanded form, writing numbers in figures and words, rounding off, Roman numerals, bases (e.g., base five), and converting between decimal and non-decimal bases.
- Operations on Whole Numbers: This topic focuses on the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), their applications, and mixed operations using BODMAS (Brackets, Orders, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction).
- Number Patterns and Sequences: This topic covers divisibility tests (2, 3, and 5), number patterns and sequences, different number systems (whole numbers, counting numbers, even, odd, triangular, square, composite, cube numbers), prime factorization, LCM (Least Common Multiple), GCF (Greatest Common Factor), and their applications.
- Fractions: This topic covers the definition and types of fractions (proper, improper, mixed, decimals), operations on fractions (including BODMAS), converting between common fractions and decimals, place values of decimals, expanding decimals, writing decimals in words and figures, rounding off decimals, and reciprocals.
Term Two and Three
- Data Handling: This topic focuses on collecting and organizing data, representing data using various graphs (line graphs, bar graphs, pie charts, coordinate graphs), calculating mean, median, mode, and range, and understanding probability.
- Money: This topic covers identifying different currencies (local and foreign), exchange rates, and calculations involving money.
- Distance, Speed, and Time: This topic covers converting units of time, calculating duration, finding speed, distance, and time, converting units of speed, calculating average speed, and interpreting travel graphs.
- Length, Mass, and Capacity: This topic covers converting metric units, perimeter of polygons, area of various shapes (including combined shapes, circles, and sectors), circumference of circles and sectors, total surface area of prisms (cubes and cuboids), volume of cuboids, cubes, and cylinders, and converting units of capacity.
- Lines, Angles, and Geometrical Figures: This topic covers complementary and supplementary angles, constructing and bisecting angles and lines, parallel lines and angles formed by them, constructing regular polygons, Pythagoras' theorem and its applications, and properties of prisms and pyramids.
- Integers: This topic introduces integers, plotting them on a number line, performing operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication) on integers, understanding solution sets, and inequalities.
- Algebra: This topic covers algebraic expressions and phrases, simplification, solving equations, substitution, and word problems involving algebra.
