Uganda Primary 3 Social Studies Curriculum

Introduction to Social Studies

Social Studies is the study of man and his environment. It encompasses history (past events), civics (present events), and geography.

Key Themes:

The Primary 3 Social Studies curriculum is structured around three key themes:

1. Our Sub-County/Division: This theme focuses on the student's local area, covering its location, physical features, people, and leaders. Students learn about maps and compasses as tools for understanding location.

2. Livelihood in Our Sub-County/Division: This theme explores the different ways people earn a living in the local area. Topics include farming, fishing, and poultry keeping.

3. Social Services and Their Importance: This theme examines the social services available in the local area and their importance to the community. These services include education, health, security, transport, communication, banks, and important places.

Additional Resources:

  • Various lesson notes and revision workbooks are available online to support the curriculum.
  • Comprehensive Social Studies textbooks are recommended by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
