Uganda Senior Three Physics Curriculum

This curriculum aims to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of fundamental physics concepts and problem-solving skills. It emphasizes experiential learning and deeper understanding. Several textbooks and resources support the curriculum, including those published by Longhorn Publishers and Baroque Publishers. The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of the curriculum.

Curriculum Structure

The curriculum is structured around several key topics, each with specific learning outcomes. These topics cover various areas of physics, including mechanics, properties of matter, earth and space physics, and more. The curriculum is designed to build upon concepts learned at the primary school level and provide a foundation for further studies in physics.

Learning Outcomes

The curriculum emphasizes the development of the following key competencies:

  • Knowledge and Understanding: Learners should demonstrate a thorough understanding of physics concepts, principles, and laws.
  • Practical Skills: Learners should be able to apply their knowledge to solve problems, conduct experiments, and analyze data.
  • Scientific Inquiry: Learners should be able to formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and interpret results.
  • Critical Thinking: Learners should be able to evaluate information, identify patterns, and draw conclusions.

Textbooks and Resources

Several textbooks and resources are available to support the curriculum. These include:

  • Longhorn Secondary Physics, Learner's Book Senior 3: This textbook provides a comprehensive overview of the Senior Three Physics curriculum.
  • Longhorn Secondary Physics, Teacher's Guide Senior 3: This guide provides support for teachers in implementing the curriculum.
  • Baroque Senior Three Physics Learner's Book: This textbook is aligned with the new lower secondary school curriculum.
  • New Physics Students' Book for S3 & S4 (Secondary Physics Uganda): This textbook covers the curriculum for both Senior Three and Senior Four.

Assessments

Assessments are conducted throughout the course to evaluate learners' understanding of the curriculum. These assessments may include tests, quizzes, practical exams, and projects.
