I Explore the World: Grade 1 Course Entries

This course introduces students to themselves, their families, communities, and the world around them. It fosters an understanding of basic human interactions, societal structures, and the natural environment.

Human

  • Human as Part of Nature and Society: Students learn that they are part of both nature and society, exploring how they differ from other living beings. They learn about their bodies, sensory organs, and basic hygiene practices. They also develop an understanding of their place of residence and safe behavior at home and on the street.
  • Self-Awareness: Students develop self-awareness by describing themselves, their capabilities, and what makes them unique. They practice giving their residential address and creating verbal portraits of themselves.

A Person Among People

  • Family and School: Students learn about family structures, the roles of family members, and the importance of school. They explore their duties as schoolchildren and practice appropriate classroom behavior and etiquette.
  • Moral Norms and Conduct: Students are introduced to basic moral norms and the importance of coexistence and cooperation. They learn about appropriate behavior in public places and discuss moral qualities such as benevolence, truthfulness, and sincerity.

Human in Society

  • Civic Identity: Students learn the name of their country, its capital, and the significance of state symbols. They explore historical monuments and develop an understanding of the connections between people in society and the importance of their work for the country's well-being.

Human and the Environment

  • Cultural Diversity: Students learn about the diversity of people and cultures around the world. They develop an understanding of the need for a friendly attitude towards other countries and peoples.
  • Human-Made Objects and Materials: Students are introduced to human-made objects and the materials they are made from. They explore inventions and their impact on human life.

Human and Nature

  • Living and Non-Living Things: Students learn to differentiate between living and non-living things and human-made objects. They explore the significance of sunlight and heat, air, water, and soil, and their properties.
  • Seasonal Changes and Relationships in Nature: Students observe and discuss daily and seasonal changes in nature, understanding the reasons for their repetition. They explore the relationships between living organisms and their environment, and between natural conditions and human activities.
  • Environmental Awareness: Students develop an understanding of the value of nature and the importance of environmental protection. They learn about the Red Book of Ukraine and participate in environmental activities.
