Ukraine Biology Curriculum - Grade 10

This curriculum outlines the topics covered in the Biology and Ecology course for grade 10 in Ukraine, based on the program provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. It is divided into two levels: Standard Level and Specialized Level. The standard level curriculum is available at

Standard Level Curriculum:

This curriculum focuses on developing scientific competency through integrated knowledge of living systems, their development, interactions, and relationship with the environment. It emphasizes understanding the biological picture of the world, valuing life, nature, and health, and promoting a conscious attitude towards nature. The curriculum aims to equip students with the ability to apply biological and ecological knowledge in everyday life and evaluate its role in sustainable development.

Specialized Level Curriculum:

The specialized level delves deeper into biological concepts and principles, preparing students for further studies in biology-related fields. The detailed curriculum can be found at The curriculum is structured around several key sections:

  • Molecular Level of Organization of Living Nature: This section covers the chemical composition of living organisms, the structure and function of biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids), and the principles of enzyme activity.
  • Cellular Level of Organization of Living Nature: This section explores the structure and function of cells, including cell organelles, cell membranes, and cellular processes such as metabolism, respiration, and photosynthesis.
  • Organismal Level of Organization of Living Nature: This section focuses on the diversity of life, including viruses, bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and animals. It covers their classification, structure, function, reproduction, and ecological roles. Specific topics include plant anatomy and physiology, animal anatomy and physiology, and the principles of genetics and inheritance.
  • Fundamentals of Ecology: This section introduces the principles of ecology, including ecological factors, populations, ecosystems, and the biosphere. It also covers the impact of human activities on the environment and the importance of biodiversity conservation.
  • Evolutionary Doctrine: This section explores the history of life on Earth, the mechanisms of evolution, and the evidence for evolution. It also covers the major evolutionary transitions and the diversity of life that has resulted from evolutionary processes.

This curriculum provides a comprehensive framework for the study of biology in grade 10, equipping students with a strong foundation in biological principles and concepts.
