Ukraine Grade 5 Music Curriculum
Music education is a compulsory subject in Ukrainian primary and secondary schools. Children study music from 1st through 7th grade. The frequency of music classes varies, with some schools offering it once a week and others alternating it with fine arts every other week.
A strong national background influences the Ukrainian music education system, with a particular emphasis on choral singing. Students learn to sing correctly and clearly, both in unison and in two-part harmonies. Music education also encompasses other activities that teach children how to perceive, perform, and create music. These activities represent all kinds of arts where music is present – vocal art, the art of playing musical instruments, musical-theoretical subjects, and music and movement. Ukrainian music education also includes folk traditions, heroic Carpathian epics, Eastern-influenced minor key compositions, and complicated polyphonic harmonies. Ukrainian folk music can be divided into two categories: ritual and non-ritual. |
