Ukraine 8th Grade Chemistry Curriculum
This curriculum is based on the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine document for grades 7-9, approved on June 7, 2017.
Review of 7th Grade Material
- Initial Chemical Concepts: Review of fundamental concepts such as substances, mixtures, physical and chemical phenomena, chemical elements, and the Law of Conservation of Mass.
- Oxygen: Oxygen's properties, production, reactions, and role in nature.
- Water: Water's properties, solutions, acids, bases, and the importance of water.
Structure of the Atom. Periodic Law and Periodic Table of Elements
- Atomic Structure: Protons, neutrons, electrons, electron shells, and orbitals.
- Periodic Law: Mendeleev's Periodic Law and the organization of the periodic table.
- Periodic Trends: Periodicity of element properties and their relationship to atomic structure.
Chemical Bond and Structure of Substance
- Chemical Bonding: Ionic and covalent bonds, electronegativity.
- Crystal Lattices: Atomic, molecular, and ionic crystals and their properties.
Amount of Substance. Calculations by Chemical Formulas
- Mole Concept: Avogadro's number, molar mass, and molar volume.
- Stoichiometry: Calculations based on chemical formulas and equations.
Main Classes of Inorganic Compounds
- Classification: Oxides, bases, acids, and salts.
- Properties and Reactions: Chemical properties and reactions of each class of compounds.
- Genetic Relationships: Relationships between different classes of inorganic compounds.
