Curriculum Content:
- Rational Expressions (24 hours): This topic covers degrees with integers and their properties, the standard view of a number, whole rational expressions, rational fractions, the main property of fractions, arithmetic actions with rational fractions, rational equations, equilibrium equations, and the function y = k/x, its graph and properties.
- Square Roots and Real Numbers (10 hours): This section introduces the function y = x², its graph and properties, arithmetic square roots, properties of arithmetic square roots, rational and irrational numbers, real numbers, and the function y = √x, its graph and properties.
- Quadratic Equations (16 hours): Students will learn about quadratic equations, square trinomials, the formula for the roots of quadratic equations, Viet's theorem, square trinomials, decomposition of square trinomials into linear multipliers, solving equations that reduce to quadratic equations, and using quadratic equations as mathematical models for applied problems.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the 8th grade, students are expected to:
- Understand and perform operations with rational expressions.
- Understand the concept of square roots and real numbers.
- Solve quadratic equations and apply them to real-world problems.
