Ukraine Grade 2 School Syllabus - Reading

This syllabus outlines the training content for Ukrainian Language and Reading for Grade 2 students, as approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

I. Interacting Verbally

  • Perception of oral information: Students will learn to actively listen and comprehend spoken language.
  • Analysis and interpretation: Students will analyze and interpret the meaning of oral information.
  • Assessment of oral information: Students will critically evaluate oral information.
  • Practical mastery of dialogue: Students will practice conversational skills, including proper communication etiquette.
  • Creation of oral monologues: Students will develop skills in delivering short speeches or presentations.

II. Reading

  • Formation and development of reading skills: Students will continue developing fundamental reading skills, including decoding, fluency, and comprehension.
  • Perception and practical distinction of texts: Students will learn to identify and differentiate between various text types.
  • Analysis and interpretation of text content: Students will analyze and interpret the meaning within different texts.
  • Formation of reflective experience: Students will reflect on the content they read and connect it to their own experiences.
  • Working with different sources and types of information: Students will explore various information sources.
  • Working with a children's book: Students will engage with age-appropriate literature.

Indicative Content of Literary Material:

The curriculum encompasses a diverse range of literary materials, including:

  • Oral folk art and children's folklore
  • Works by classical Ukrainian and international writers
  • Contemporary domestic and foreign literature: tales, legends, stories, poems, fairy tales, and comics
  • Scientific and cognitive literature for children: books, encyclopedias, and handbooks

  • Correct pronunciation and spelling: Emphasis will be placed on accurate pronunciation and spelling.
  • Using word wrapping rules: Students will learn how to properly format text.
  • Using the alphabet: Students will solidify their knowledge of the alphabet.
