GCSE Ancient Greek
This course, offered by OCR, aims to develop students' knowledge and understanding of Classical Greek vocabulary, syntax, and grammar, alongside exploring ancient literature, values, and society through original texts.
Course Structure
The GCSE consists of three examined components:
- Language: This paper assesses translation skills, grammar, and comprehension of unseen passages.
- Literature: Students study set texts from ancient Greek literature, including prose and verse options. Authors studied can include Homer, Euripides, Xenophon, and Herodotus.
- Culture: This component explores aspects of ancient Greek culture, such as religion, festivals, the Olympic Games, and social structures.
