GCSE Chinese (Mandarin)
GCSE Chinese (Mandarin) qualifications are designed for students who are learning Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language. Several examination boards offer GCSE qualifications in Chinese (Mandarin), including AQA and Edexcel. While other exam boards like OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, and CCEA do not currently offer this GCSE subject, the Cambridge IGCSE offers qualifications in Chinese language learning.
AQA
AQA offers the GCSE Chinese (Mandarin) 8673 qualification. Resources available include past papers, mark schemes, and notes and guidance on conducting the speaking test. The AQA GCSE Chinese (Mandarin) specification is designed for students learning Mandarin as a foreign language. The exam covers four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A sample of the listening exam from 2022 is available.
Edexcel
Edexcel offers a GCSE in Chinese (spoken Mandarin/spoken Cantonese). The qualification consists of four externally examined papers: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A student book is available to support the course. Audio files for the textbook are also available. Past papers can be found on Save My Exams.
Cambridge IGCSE
Cambridge offers IGCSE qualifications in Chinese, including Mandarin Chinese - Foreign Language (0547), Chinese - First Language (0509), and Chinese - Second Language (0523). These syllabi cater to different levels of Chinese language proficiency. A range of resources, including coursebooks, workbooks, and past papers, are available to support these qualifications.
